Yesterday marked the final day of Stockholm’s biannual interior accessories fair, Formex. A little overwhelming, but wonderful! I’m looking forward to introducing many more amazing independent Swedish designers to you in the months ahead that I met there.

Formex Formidable is the design award presented at Formex based on the criteria of innovation, creativity, and saleability. The winner gets 100,000 Swedish kronor (about $14,500) towards their marketing efforts.
From around 300 products submitted for the award, only 30 were nominated by the judging panel. Some of this process is documented in pictures on Trendgruppen by Stefan Nilsson, who was one of the judges. (Text is in Swedish, but then that’s what Google Translate is for.)
I was pleased to see many familiar designers nominated- several in fact, that we’ve already featured here at From Sthlm! Here were some of my favorites:
Our August featured designer 10 Swedish Designers were nominated for bags in their latest prints. (By the way, if you’re reading this on Aug 31, today is your last chance to get yours here at From Sthlm!)
New fabric pattern by Lisa Bengtsson, featured here previously at From Sthlm.
The Svenska Snapsvisor kitchen towels are by Barbro Tryberg Boberg and Maria Holmer Dahlgren. They’re good friends of From Sthlm, so you’ll be seeing more from them soon!
Embroidered bicycle seat covers by Andreas Haals and Johanna Högväg for Hops-shop.
Stationary supplies from DeFyra for Wennerström AB.
For the winner… nothing less than a bonefide design classic given new life. In honor of Bauhaus’ 90th anniversary, Rosenthal has re-released Bauhaus founder Walter Gropius’ TAC ceramic tea set in bright primary colors.
Walter Gropius’ classic tea set was the Formex Formidable winner.
