It was the energy in this photograph from my previous post that drew me to him, but it seems I was already an admirer…
I took the shot above at this year’s spring Formex of Jarl Fernaeus’ Young Designer’s Lounge, Café Jarl.

His furniture series Redux (above) was featured which he’s now producing himself and has recently made available for sale. It’s made of metal and solid oak, with an enticing opening in the middle to let a plant or other item find its way through.
Can’t you just imagine something viney finding it’s way around those legs and through the opening… like nature reclaiming… well, kind of like this.

This is the Redux lamp. I like it both ways… naked but also covered and personalized to make it your own. I think it’s the tight structure poking through the whimsy and randomness that does it for me.

I also like these pieces from his 2009 Paperland series… the James furniture set and both forms of the Friendly lamp.
An impressive debut from a relatively new-on-the-scene designer. Definitely one to keep an eye on!
