ONE OF THE WINNERS! The W101 lamp made for Wastberg by Claesson Koivisto Rune offers a solution for a more sustainable future in classrooms and offices. It’s made from environmentally friendly paper. Its playful shape is reminiscent of Japanese origami.
The Design S award is a celebration of innovations in Swedish design that happens every other year. Whatever the design discipline, the Design S is there to award creative solutions to all kinds of challenges – from products to services, to environments and more.
Nominations aren’t split into traditional categories, instead each innovation is judged simply on how big the need is that each product faces, and how well it solves the problem.
You can see the winners as well as the full range of brilliant contributions nominated at the S Design Prize website. Tip: Use Google translate.
Of course I’m drawn to the prettier lifestyle entries. Here are more of my favorite nominations:
Form Us With Love combines the practicality of a spotlight with the convenience of a pendant with their “Ogle” lamp for Atelje Lyktan.
The “Tio” collection and “Harry” stool, both by Massproductions and solutions for widespread use designed with mass production in mind. Read my interview with designer Chris Martin over at dwell.com
Graphic identity of the 53rd International Biennale in Venice by Stockholm Design Lab.
“Wave,” commissioned by the hot air balloon company Far & Flyg from designers Erik Nyberg and Gustav Ström. It’s not a hammock, not a sunbed, not an umbrella, but a little bit of each combining beauty and elegance.
Next round… 2012!
