Swedish Hasbeens Clogs

Walk_a_mile_badge_hasbeens It was just over a year ago that the obsession began… my obsession, that is, with Swedish Hasbeens. Nobody in the US was talking about clogs yet, I was spending a lot of time in Sweden, and there was this new shoe popping up all over Stockholm that I just couldn’t get enough of.

Fast forward to now and clog mania has struck, with Swedish Hasbeens at the very forefront.

Even Carrie will be wearing a pair in the next Sex and the City. We all remember what happened when Carrie wore Manolos and Uggs… Swedish Hasbeens are officially a big deal!

The excitement began with a distinctively shaped box in the mail. After a year of lusting, my Swedish Hasbeens had arrived.

Of course, it wasn’t an easy choice getting here.

What started when Hasbeens founders Cilla and Emy discovered 300 pairs of authentic high-heeled 70’s style clogs in the basement of an old clog factory has turned into a collection of 19 different styles in an amazing color palette. And that doesn’t even include the children’s styles.

The style that I finally decided on was the Peep-toe super high in orange. Admittedly, this was the one I’d had my eye on all along.

I was pleased to see what a quality shoe this is in person. The shoes are hand-made with Swedish-grown alder wood or lime tree. The leather is chrome-free natural grain leather. I found them to be a good comfortable fit for me, though I’ve heard some people complain that they’re a bit narrow. You definitely want to consult their size chart before ordering online, or try them on for yourself. (I was in LA last week and my friend, designer Elaine Kim told me she’s going to start carrying them in her shop, so Los Angeleans, check them out there!)

With first impressions out of the way, I was ready to hit the pavement in the late afternoon sun. On this walk I headed straight for Pacific Heights, one of my favorite neighborhoods in San Francisco, starting with Alta Plaza Park and its amazing views.

From there I headed over to nearby Fillmore Street, one of my favorite shopping, eating, and coffee streets in all the world.

A very good walk… and topping out at not one mile, but closer to two! The shoes held up wonderfully. No blisters by the time I got home (whew!). It’s true, I had high expectations. I’m not disappointed.

LOVE your Swedish Hasbeen experience!! I too love their style and have finally decided to order a pair…and maybe 2 (gulp). I have a question for you, do they run big? I usually wear a 7, but according to their size chart, I would wear a 6. Let me know when you have a chance and happy clogging! :)

Hi Renn – I found the Hasbeens sizes to be exactly on target according to *their* size chart. I’ve noticed that theirs is a little different than other US to EU size conversions I’ve seen (including the one for the Åsa Westlund clogs I’m featuring on the site this month), but it’s their clogs. Definitely use their size chart. ~that’s my 2 cents anyway :) Good luck & enjoy!!

Clogs in fashion again! I opened my first clog store November 1976, with the mission of educating about the orthopedic value of our old tradition in Sweden of working in clogs. I don’t even think anyone knows what the proper “walk” in a pair of clogs means. I never went with the fashion and I’m still in business. Talking about “Sex in the City” how do you think Sarah Jessica Parker made it through those fashion shoes. With the clogs she got fitted by me since 1993 (20 some pairs in all). Hurry for all the fun, but it is sad that no factory in Sweden makes a real clog. I send clogs home (Sweden) to by brother, some friends and customers, belive it or not. Check us out on our web site http://www.clogmaster.com. By the way we only sell to customers we met and fitted.

Hi I love the Clog reviews..they look beautiful.

I have a web shop selling Clogs. Wooden ones and Comfy ones..I’m based in London but sell all over the world.

If you have a look on the site, look at the jewelery from Sagen ..It’s silver rings made from vintage swedish china.. they are beautiful.
