Chanel, Burberry, even the Gap has jumped onto the great clog rush this season.
The whole world is going gaga for clogs, but they’re not called Swedish clogs for nothing.
Sweden is where the wood and leather clog was born. It’s where uberstars ABBA came from, bringing clogs into mainstream fashion back in the 70’s. It’s where children are raised wearing clogs as a staple from the time they can walk.
The Sydney Herald, Nov. 2, 1969
A friend of mine still has her first pair of kiddie clogs which are well worn and no more than three inches long. She told me that the traditional clog-maker Troentorp once sold as many as two pairs of clogs a year for every person in Sweden! (And then one day the sneaker came along…)
In any case, they’re back. Big time.
And I’m on a mission to make your clogs real Swedish clogs. Forget mass produced. If you want quality and authenticity, buy Swedish.
For the next 10 days I’ll be helping you evaluate the Swedish clogs available- there are a lot of choices after all!
I’ll be walking a mile in each different shoe… evaluating its fit, style and comfort… learning about the unique history of each clog maker… and sharing discoveries along the way as I hit the pavement in my beautiful hometown of San Francisco.

Oh, and chime in… You can Walk a Mile in my Clogs too. Just send in a photo diary of your walk in a pair of authentic Swedish clogs. If we like it, we’ll post it here!
