I was thrilled to see that Roy Andersson’s latest film You, the Living (Du levande in Swedish) is coming to San Francisco!
Roy Andersson is a Swedish film director best known for his films A Swedish Love Story and Songs from the Second Floor, though he’s spent most of his career directing over 400 commercials.
You, the Living was released in 2007. It’s a film about humankind, its greatness and its baseness, joy and sorrow, its self-confidence and anxiety, and its desire to love and be loved. The film is centered around the lives of an overweight woman, a disgruntled psychiatrist, a heart broken groupie, a carpenter, a business consultant, an elementary school teacher with emotional issues and her rug selling husband, among others.
I haven’t seen it yet but as it’s Roy Andersson I already know it will be hauntingly beautiful. Especially judging by the clip below.
It will be showing September 25 – October 1, 2009 at Sundance Kabuki Cinemas.
Check with your local indie theaters to see if You, the Living will be showing in your area.
