Clogs are getting a lot of love this summer, but for Åsa Westlund growing up in Sweden’s traditional Dalarna county, clogs have always
been a part of everyday life.

They weren’t always her favorite footwear though. And neither was she particularly fond of the traditional hand-painted “kurbits” flower patterns, known from the Dala horse folk craft.

It wasn’t until she moved away that she rediscovered the “cool” in clogs and kurbits.

Åsa spent five years at London’s Central St Martins School of Art and Design, earning her Masters in Fashion design. Next she moved to Paris, working for two years at Chloé with head designer Phoebe Philo.

With a firm foundation in fashion and manufacturing, Åsa returned to Sweden on a mission to mix modern fashion with the traditions of her
childhood.

Åsa explains her unique take on clogs this way: “I have learned to appreciate my heritage and I’m always excited to see what happens when you let the old and new collide.”

Today her unique designs under the name There Goes the Neighbourhood dazzle wherever they are seen. Whether it is in Paris, San Francisco or back home in Dalarna.

There Goes the Neighbourhood clogs feature a wooden heel, stylishly higher and narrower than the traditional clogs from Åsa’s childhood.

The uppers are made of leather.

The patterns are hand painted by a woman in Dalarna making each pair a totally unique original.
